Enliven Positive Aging Services:
Community Social, counselling,
group education, mentoring, home care and day care.
Presbyterian Support (Upper South Island) services for older people operate under the division name Enliven.
These services support older persons and their families to maintain wellbeing and social connection while dealing with life’s challenges. They are available to everyone in the community whatever their background, their religion, their ethnicity or their beliefs. You don't have to be a Presbyterian to be supported by, work for or support Presbyterian Support.
Counselling:
Talking things over with someone can be useful. The
main purpose of counselling is to help you sort things out for
yourself and come to your own understandings and decisions so you
can face the future with new hope and confidence.
Presbyterian Support also offers a specialised counselling service for people affected by dementia, and for their families and carers.
Social Work Christchurch:
For people 65 years and over services
include assessment and information, co-ordination of support
services, counselling, advocacy, liaison with other agencies or
health professionals, support for carers, elder abuse intervention.
Home visits can be made.
Group Learning:
Groups are held at the Campbell Centre or can be
provided for church or community groups in your area. They help
address issues such as caring for ageing parents, helping yourself
to good health, grief support, depression, positive ageing,
relationships, legal matters.
Falls Prevention Christchurch, Akaroa, Mid Canterbury, Nelson and
North Canterbury:
Group classes based on Tai Chi offer exercise to improve strength
and balance and aid in the prevention of falls. Home-based exercise
programmes are available for older, frailer clients.
Harakeke Club:
Harakeke Clubs in Riccarton and Linwood are day
programmes for older people with memory loss. They provide social
opportunities, motivation and appropriate activities. Allowing
carers day respite to pursue their own interests, or activities or
just have a rest.
Activities include singing, cards, cooking, exercises, games, gardening, indoor games, minibus, music, newspaper reading, pool table, reading
Totara Club:
Totara Clubs in Riccarton and Rangiora are day
programmes for older people open Monday to Friday (Riccarton) and
Monday to Saturday (Rangiora). Totara Clubs provide a place to meet
together, share a meal, outings, entertainment and a range of
activities, where old acquaintances are renewed and new friendships
made. Experienced, caring staff are assisted by enthusiastic
volunteers. Transport is arranged.
Homelink:
HomeLink is a new service in Canterbury, adding value to
the lives of older people by enabling them to regain and maintain
independent living, continue with activities and interests, and
access the places and people they need.
HomeLink is a personalised service: how people are supported is decided between them and the HomeLink co-ordinator, with an individual plan setting out what the client wants to achieve. A support worker assists the client on a weekly basis.
