Quality Clinical Indicators

A clinical indicator is defined as a measure of the clinical management and/or outcome of care. The Canterbury DHB Quality and Patient Safety Council are working with Clinicians towards the identification, development and establishment of Quality Clinical Indicators in four highlighted Disease priority areas as stated in the Canterbury DHB District Strategic Plan – A Healthier Canterbury: Directions 2010. These are illnesses that significantly reduce the quality of life for the sufferer, their families and the community; yet there are opportunities for early prevention and/or treatment programme development:

Many Canterbury DHB services participate in the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) clinical indicators programme. There are 21 clinical indicator sets. For further information regarding this indicator programme please refer to: www.achs.org.au

A number of Burwood's rehabilitation services have joined the The Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC) and will participate in their benchmarking programme. The Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC) is a joint initiative of the Australian rehabilitation sector (providers, funders, regulators and consumers). It commenced operation on 1 July, 2002. With the support of its industry partners, AROC has been established by the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
