A key strategy for the District Health Board has been the development of careers and clinical leadership at all levels within the organisation
We have a comprehensive staff development programme which has been developed to supplement the ongoing clinical skills training available to staff. People management and skills-based training and development for first level managers, supervisors and line staff is provided generically, or as required by specialty areas.
The District Health Board has created and delivered a Management & Leadership Programme for Clinical Directors and Senior Managers, and a Management Development Programme for Line Managers/Supervisors.
A Clinical Skills Unit located on the Christchurch Hospital campus opened in 2002. The Unit provides nurses, medical students, doctors, speech language therapists, physiotherapists, technicians and other allied health staff with opportunities to attain high standards of excellence in their performance of clinical tasks such as cannulation, intravenous lines, suturing, and various examination techniques.
This is only a small example of the types of training opportunities available to our staff.
