Welcome to Canterbury District Health Board’s Facility Development Project website.
This project supports the overall transformation of the Canterbury health system, which is about orientating health services to provide more community-based healthcare to Canterbury people, so that they can take increased responsibility for their own health and stay healthier in their own homes. It is also about ensuring that hospital specialist services can be responsive to the needs of patients requiring care in hospital and able to provide advice to community-based services.

Ensuring our facilities are fit for purpose and are able to support the changes occurring in our health system is at the heart of the Facility Development Project.
We are transforming our health system to ensure the patient is at the centre.
We are increasingly offering services in the community that in the past have been delivered in our hospitals to ensure Canterbury people have a main point of contact close to where they live or work.
People are being offered more support to help them to take increased responsibility for their own health.
We are redesigning hospital services to ensure Canterbury people are being offered quicker, more effective treatment.
