Sandy Richardson Sandra Richardson

Sandra has worked in the area of emergency nursing for over 15 years, and has a background in pre-hospital emergency care and recovery room nursing. She gained a Bachelor of Arts from Canterbury University following which she enrolled at the Christchurch Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered General and Obstetric Nurse. She is strongly committed to ongoing education and the development of nursing knowledge, having completed post graduate qualifications through Massey and Otago universities. She is currently enrolled in a PhD program with a focus on Emergency Department overcrowding. She brings a combination of clinical and academic expertise, and has a passion for nursing.

The role of Nurse Researcher was established in July of 2002, as a .5 full time equivalent position. In addition to her research work, Sandra is employed as a relieving Hospital Duty Manager and acts as clinical supervisor and mentor for a range of under- and post-graduate nursing students. She has published a number of articles in national and international journals, and presented at a wide range of conferences. Notably, she was a co-presenter at the 2005 15th World Congress on Medical Law with the paper ‘The forensic nurse practitioner role (emergency nursing) – a potential response to changing health needs in New Zealand’ and the 1999 centennial International Council of Nurses Conference in London, with the paper ‘Casualisation of Nursing: a New Zealand perspective on an international phenomena’.
