Independent Midwifery Care

An Independent Midwife can provide care for women during pregnancy, labour and birth, and in the time following birth.

If you require Specialist Obstetrician services, your Independent Midwife can arrange this through Christchurch Women's Hospital (free of charge) or through a private specialist obstetrician (where a fee may be charged).

Should complications arise, it may be necessary for your care to be transferred to the Christchurch Women's Hospital Obstetric Team. If this occurs, your Independent or Domino Midwife may be unable to continue providing your midwifery care.

She may stay with you in a support role only.

Care provided by an Independent Midwife is free to New Zealand residents.
