Gynaecology Services
This service provides elective and 24 hour acute care. The main areas are:
Acute Gynaecology Assessment The Acute Gynaecology Assessment is where women are referred by practitioners to be assessed by medical staff regarding antenatal, postnatal or Gynaecology emergencies. Women may be admitted from this area or treated and discharged home. Colposcopy For outpatients and Colposcopy, a woman's General Practitioner will send a referral to these areas for specialist consultation. Both areas use a booking system to schedule an appropriate appointment. Cervical Screening The Canterbury Cervical Screening Programme is part of the Gynaecology Services. This is a national programme where all women that have a cervical smear are automatically registered on to the programme unless they sign themselves off. The register is a safety net for women reminding them if they have missed their regular smear test and if any abnormal results need to be followed up. Further reading on Colposcopy, Cervical Screening and other women's health issues are included here in RTF format. Depending on your browser type, clicking on a heading will open the article in your word processor for you to read or print out or alternatively you will be prompted to download the file for offline viewing.
