Canterbury people to benefit from new health information sharing system

A new way of sharing health information will be introduced in Canterbury later this month.

Called the Shared Care Record View or eSCRV for short, the system takes certain patient information and makes it available to authorised doctors, nurses and pharmacists providing care for the same patient, instead of having to record it separately each time.

Canterbury Health System patients first to benefit from ground breaking new equipment

Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is the first in New Zealand to begin medical diagnostic testing of bacteria and yeasts with revolutionary microbiology equipment.

The team in the CHL Microbiology Laboratory have begun using a MALDI-TOF (matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation time of flight mass spectrometry) for the identification of bacteria and yeasts on all suitable medical diagnostic samples entering the laboratory.

Health warning for Scarborough Beach

The Community and Public Health division of Canterbury District Health Board has issued a health warning for Scarborough Beach, following recent notification of a localised breakage in the sewerage system in the area.

Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Ramon Pink says water at this beach is now unsuitable for recreational use and the area is now closed to recreational use.

Health Innovation Hub given green light

The Canterbury District Health board is delighted the Ministers of Health and Economic Development have approved the establishment and funding of the New Zealand Health Innovation hub.

The Hub will involve a small team of clinical leaders and commercialisation experts, based in Canterbury and the three metro Auckland District Health Boards. Dr Helen Lunt has been appointed as Canterbury’s Clinical Director Innovation to lead the southern arm.

Measles case in Canterbury prompts warning

Canterbury District Health Board’s Community and Public Health Division has been notified of a confirmed case of measles in Christchurch.

The case is a student at Canterbury University who became unwell last week and had contact with other people at Canterbury University and in the Riccarton community while infectious.
