Media Release - 07/05/07
I would like to publicly thank Canterbury District Health Board staff, particularly those in the Emergency Department, for the dedication and professionalism that they showed in responding to the many injured party goers that arrived at Christchurch Hospital on Saturday night.
Staff in the Emergency Department worked long into the night, many past their normal finishing times. Other staff members came from different areas of the Hospital and other CDHB hospitals to do all they could for the patients, their families and friends.
It was a huge tribute to this organisation that Christchurch Hospital’s duty managers and Emergency Department responded so completely and adequately. The ED team should be congratulated on their care, compassion and teamwork and I would like to express my utmost confidence and respect for them and the work that they do.
Among those that require special thanks are the Emergency Department consultants and their team of nursing and medical staff, the Night Team Co-ordinator, social workers, nurse aides and the ED receptionists.
We also could not have managed without the trained skills of the security guards and orderlies, whose assistance with the volumes of people in the department made caring for the injured and their relatives much easier.
The X-ray department also had a major impact on the smooth flow of casualties. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and all medics involved were also part of an extremely well executed response.
Teamwork in the ICU and on Christchurch Hospital’s wards continued on Sunday to maximise the care of patients that had been admitted and support for the family and friends of the injured.
Thanks again to you all.
Gordon Davies
CDHB Chief Executive
