Members of the Service & Food Workers Union will be striking at Canterbury District Health Board sites from 11.30am until 1pm this Wednesday 13 December. This strike will affect services provided by food service staff, cleaners and orderlies.
The CDHB is among 16 District Health Boards and a number of private providers to DHBs that have been issued strike notice by the Union.
“Contingency plans are being prepared which include serving a packed lunch to hospital patients,” strike co-ordinator Jock Muir said.
“Some orderlies will be on strike but essential services will be maintained including patient transfers and evacuation procedures if required,” he said.
Plans are in place to provide essential cleaning services during the strike. Other cleaning will be delayed until after 1pm.
Staff are being advised that limited options will be available at CDHB cafes during the strike.
