CDHB & Ngai Tahu Agree on Hillmorton Land Sale
The Canterbury District Health Board has
entered into an agreement with Ngai Tahu Property Ltd for the sale and purchase
of 22 hectares of surplus land at the Hillmorton Hospital site.
Making the announcement, CDHB Interim Chief Executive Dr Karleen Edwards said
the land had been identified as surplus to the Board’s requirements last year
and the Minister of Health had given her consent to the sale in September 2004.
Dr Edwards said the proceeds of the sale must be used by the Board for the
purchase, improvement or extension of facilities for health purposes.
‘We are very pleased an agreement has been reached between us and Ngai Tahu
Property. The land that has been sold will not impact on the current hospital
site or its immediate surrounding areas. In determining the land available for
sale, the Board was very careful to ensure there would be enough land retained
to enable appropriate recreation for patients and future hospital expansion.’
The CDHB understands Ngai Tahu Property intends to complete a residential
subdivision on the site with the physical work to begin some time next year.
‘This agreement is good news for the Hillmorton community,’ said Tony Sewell,
General Manager of Ngai Tahu Property. ‘It signals the start of a process that
will ensure a quality residential development for the area,’ he said.
Ends.
