Legionnaires Disease Update
One more case of Legionnaires Disease has been notified to
the Canterbury Medical Officer of Health today bringing the total number of
cases notified since the beginning of this year to 19 in Christchurch.
Dr Mel Brieseman said the latest case was an older man who has now been admitted
to hospital.
‘We are working with local businesses to ensure all cooling towers in the city
are checked as promptly as possible,’ he said.
However, Dr Brieseman said it usually took at least eight days to get the
results back, which meant it was unlikely any possible sources would be
identified until later next week.
Ends.
