The Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) elections were held during October 2010, in conjunction with the local authority elections with election day on 9 October 2010. The CDHB consists of up to 11 members, with seven elected by the public at large within the CDHB area every three years and up to four appointed by the Minister of Health.

The Board has all powers necessary for the governance and management of the CDHB. However, the Board must delegate to the CDHB’s Chief Executive the power to make decisions on management matters relating to the DHB. The Board’s role is therefore one of stewardship, direction-setting and monitoring the DHB’s overall performance against its goals.
