Neil commenced his training in 1971 at Dunedin Hospital and gained NZCS in 1974, Part 1 Microbiology 1976, Part 1 Biochemistry 1977 & Part 2 Biochemistry 1979. He was Deputy Charge Technologist Biochemistry at Dunedin Hospital 1988 and Technical Manager for Biochemistry and Cytogenetics in 1992. Anatomical Pathology and Mortuary were added to his role in 1994. In December 1999, Neil commenced work for Canterbury Health Laboratories and was appointed to the position of Supervisor Registration in May 2000.
