Liam attended Medical school in Nottingham, England, graduating in 1994. He worked as a doctor in England and at several hospitals around New Zealand before embarking on further specialist training. He has been engaged in the practice of Haematology since 1999 and currently holds a post as a Consultant Haematologist at Christchurch Hospital and as Senior Lecturer in the University of Otago, Christchurch. He has a particular interest in myeloma as well as research in to soluble markers of immune activation. He is current chairman of the Lymphoma board. He is active in medical student education as well as adult education teaching theory.
