Karen commenced training as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Christchurch Hospital in 1971, specialising in Microbiology. After a short period as Sole Charge at Burwood Hospital she went overseas for the ‘Big OE”. On return in 1980 Karen joined the National Health Institute in Wellington (now ESR) in the Enteric Reference Laboratory before leaving in 1985 to start a family. In 1988 Karen returned to the workforce part time on the multi-disciplined Night Shift, back at Christchurch Hospital and continued on this shift for 12 years. Concurrently for a period Karen was also employed in Immunology from 1998 -2007 when she took up her present position of Blood Test Centre Supervisor.
