About Us

Ashburton & Rural Health Services provides a range of health services available to the local Ashburton Community and beyond.

The eight hospitals from which the services are based are located across Canterbury, with Ashburton being the largest and central point for the other smaller hospitals.  Ashburton is situated centrally in the Canterbury Province which is ideal for travelling from other parts of the region. 

Staff who provide the services have access to many local recreational activities with the cities of Christchurch and Timaru just an hour away. Health professionals seeking lifestyle and work are encouraged to contact us via our jobs page.

People from throughout Canterbury are encouraged to utilise the Ashburton based  services available including both Inpatient and Outpatient.  Travelling to Ashburton for services  such as X-ray, Outpatient consultations, Laboratory, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Therapy,  may be a better option for many.  There are few delays in getting appointments to these and other services and parking is not a problem.

General Surgery and Gynaecology are available for both Acute and Waiting List patients.

Quality healthcare provided in a compassionate manner is recognised by Rural Health Services Accredited status for the majority of the hospitals as awarded by Quality Health New Zealand.
